Basketball Jones by E. Lynn Harris

How far would you go to protect the one you love? When loving someone, should you be able to tell the world or should it remain a secret? Is it fair to drop everything every time someone asks you to be there for him or her? "Basketball Jones" is a novel by E. Lynn Harris who once again outlines and write a FABULOUS story about love and what it can take you through. AJ Richardson and Dray Jones have been in love for 7 years. Did I say in love for 7 years, I meant secretly in love. Or is it really a secret. Dray has been the one living the double life while AJ kept their relationship a secret all of this time. Dray is a star basketball player who lavishes both his wife and his lover in order to have the best of both worlds on the court, off the court, in his home with his wife, and with AJ. Does being in love mean you have to sacrifice everything in order to please your mate? E. Lynn Harris touches on love, secrets, friendship, trust, and blackmail. Does the relationship between AJ and Dray survive it all?

"Mr. Fix-It" by Crystal Hubbard

When I picked up the book, I was excited about reading it and I thought it had a lot of potential until I could not get past the second chapter. I desperately tried to hold on during three separate occasions and I just could not do it. First of all, the movie “Something New” kept popping up in my head. The image was just stuck. Second, the adjectives describing everything except the characters were overwhelming. I could care less about the finishing of the door knobs, tabletops, etc. It seemed as if the author was trying to go back and fill in too many gaps to get the number of pages needed for the book. I may pick up the book again on one of my boring days when I have absolutely nothing else to do.

This Life Isn't Perfect Holla" by Sandra Foy

Kimberly Riley is a no nonsense woman who has nothing but tough love to give to her friends and family. Just because she is this way, does not mean that she is not sensitive. Kimberly is a great example of how the cards can be dealt in your life, but its up to you to figure out how you can play the game. With the help of her sister and best friend, Kimberly does not take her problems lying down. She’s overweight, her husband left her, her kids soon follow to be with their dad and her niece and nephew became terrified of their auntie. The author makes you realize that if you think you are the only one in this world going through something, think again. Furthermore, no one can be in this world and not need anyone. With this being the author’s first novel, she did a good job pulling Kimberly through her adversities. The focus was on Kimberly throughout the entire book. There was not one chapter where the focus was shifted to another character without Kimberly being involved. The only things I did not like about the book were the title and a couple of the situations were left dangling without completion. The title should have just been “This Life Isn’t Perfect”.
